Design DNA
The Bühlmann Decompression 02 has been built the way it had to be built, with no concessions to established dive watch design conventions.
The design DNA of the Bühlmann Decompression watches collection is found in the oversized minutes hand which times all diving functions. The XXL minutes hand has the purpose of placing the visual focus on the diving information such as the total dive time (TDT) and the decompression stops times.
The crowns positioned at 12 o'clock and a 5° case inclination are the other Bühlmann Diver Watches proprietary design features.
These distinctive design DNA elements as well as the signature Bühlmann Druckkamer Blue dial - inspired by the colour of the Druckkamer - make your Decompression 02 unmistakable and immediately recognizable.
Wearing it identifies you as a serious diver who supports dive safety
Twin Safety Bezel
The Bühlmann Decompression 02 is the first dive watch to feature a twin diving safety bezel that enables the separate tracking of the total dive time (TDT) and decompression stops (DS), each with its own fail safe blocking direction.
Twin safety, for more safety
Decompression table
The turning bottom dial of the Twin Decompression Stops Dial® features the decompression times for the 17 "golden zone" recreational dive profiles. These are derived from Dr. A. Bühlmann's renown 0-700m ALS dive tables which still, after 40 years, remain among the most widely used and widely adopted by the diving industry, including in dive computers.
Set your dive profile before diving in the dial opening at six o'clock and then use the minutes hand and the decompression bezel to time your decompression stops when resurfacing.
Plan and dive
Fly-no-Fly
At the end of your dive turn the bottom dial to the "Fly-no-Fly" position and set the indicator to "No-fly" by pointing the arrow towards the red segment. Once the arrow points to green it will be safe to fly. This position of the bottom dial can also be used to have a full blue colour aesthetic of the dial when you are not diving.
To fly or not to fly. The answer is in the arrow.
To fly or not to fly. That is the question
"As a young engineer and an enthusiastic diving instructor, deeply interested in decompression research, it has been an outstanding experience to work with Dr. Bühlmann as a research associate, a programmer and a test diver. The Bühlmann Decompression 02 is a marvellous piece of micro-machinery and Swiss precision. It reflects in noble form Prof. Bühlmann’s endeavour to enhance the safety of all divers worldwide, now and in the future."
Beat A. Müller, MSc Mech. Eng. ETH and former member of the Bühlmann Research Team at the University Hospital of Zürich
The Bühlmann Decompression 02 has been built the way it had to be built, with no concessions to established dive watch design conventions.
We designed the Bühlmann Decompression 02 like Dr. A. Bühlmann would have done.
We have integrated 35 years of breathing science by functionally intergating his ZH-L16 algorithm in the form of his 0-700 ALS diving table on the dial. The table has been circularly printed on the turning bottom dial and works in connection with the XXL minutes hand and the decompression time scale on the outer bezel of the twin safety dive bezel. Together with Thomas Bühlman, the son of Alfred Bühlmann, and his team we have adopted new solutions for a diving watch which have been functionally validated by decompression science specialists, including former members of the Bühlmann research team, the Divers Alert Network (DAN) Europe.
The legacy of Prof. Bühlmann lives on in the Decompression 02.

X1 Grade power
Superluminova® pigments are Swiss made and offer the strongest possible afterglow performance. The pigments are non-radioactive, REACH compatible, highly temperature resistant and resistant to environmental influences.
Grade X1 used on the Decompression 02 shows a performance increase of up to 60% after two hours compared to standard grades. Long term legibility according to the ISO 3157 standard is extended by at least a factor of 1.6.
The Decompression 02 features X1 luminous on the ceramic bezel, hands and indices.
Functional case
The Bühlmann Decompression case not only features a twin safety bezel, but also a case inclination of 5° for increased dial legibility, a concave case back for optimal wear comfort and a flexible joint on the 12 o'clock lug to ensure a snug fit of the watch for any wrist size.
In fact, the Decompression 02 has been mentioned as the most comfortable dive watch to wear by DAN Europe and CMAS Switzerland instructors who tested it.
Supporting the quest
A portion of each Buhlmann Decompression 02 watch sale will be donated to the DAN Europe Medical Research Foundation to support its ongoing research into the perfect decompression algorithm.
This partnership is a tangible way for divers to contribute to the future of their sport. By wearing the Bühlmann Decompression 02, you signal your commitment to science, legacy, and the pursuit of safer diving for all.
”Working with Prof. Bühlmann was instrumental in shaping the early stages of my career. At DAN Europe, I am pursuing that mission alongside our research and medical team, evolving universal algorithms into personalised decompression strategies. This watch honours that legacy while supporting vital research that is shaping the future of dive safety."
Prof. Alessandro Marroni, Founder and President, DAN Europe
